"...In my personal discography, some albums are classified as "Crossover Dance Floor" and that would be a perfect description for the album, 'Envisioning Abstraction: the Duality of FluiD' by Chicago-based musician/producer FluiD. Envisioning Abstraction: the Duality of FluiD is released on Alrealon Musique (based in Switzerland and the USA), who released a trendy and stylish digipack CD.
Christophe Gilmore alias FluiD – a proud but critical American (a rare combination), which shows through his work the present and the hypothetic al future of his country. Because his overall vision is probably negative or pessimistic, this album has a dark touch.
Musically, FluiD has created a tasteful blend of Dub, Trip Hop, Metal, Hip-Hop and Noise-Core. In this album, melodies and experimentation share equal parts. Envisioning Abstraction: the Duality of FluiD can please Massive Attack listeners as well as well as those of a more specific crowd.
My favorite track is clearly the catchy 'Dread Futures' (I love Reggae!) it presents the finest Dub combined with distorted guitar lines.
In conclusion, 'Envisioning Abstraction: the Duality of FluiD' is the perfect album for people who love “out of the box” music, multicultural love & Massive Attack!
Turkish blog, Sonyudum, recently posted a review of 'Duality'. It is mixed in with a review of The Blood of Heroes, remix CD, 'Remain'.
Here is the English translation:
"... Released last year, 'The Blood of Heroes' is an excellent album. Remain is The Blood Of Heroes remix album was also one of the best albums of last year.
These Metal albums have the perfect blend of dubstep, dark atmosphere and the inherent stiffness at the same time, although the shoegaze style of the album with melancholic parts was absolutely shocking and so peculiar.
FluiD also has some elements I just mentioned. His music oscillates between Dubstep, Metal, Dark Ambient, Noise, Hip-Hop and Industrial.
Loud, experimental music with hard parts. Do not miss your favorite track, relax while listening to the entire album on Bandcamp.
In particular, 'Disrupting the Ghost' is the track I would like to draw attention to, it is my favorite song on the album..."
Brooklyn, NY collective, PAShas just released 'PAS - Reconstruction' (ALRN023) on Alrealon Musique. Reconstruction features contributions from Alrealon Musique artists, Black Saturn, John 3:16, LAX, Zilmrah and myself. The 8 song release sees PAS construct new tracks from the sonic debris of the aforementioned artists.
Chilean blog, Absenta Musical has posted a review of 'Reconstruction', here is the translation:
"When you close your eyes while listening to this album, thousands of images come into your mind. Each album, each soundtrack and each song reflects a different imaginary world. Most of the time, these images are related to the artwork/video work associated with the music, sometimes, it’s the music itself that creates these images.
When you listen to this new album by the collective from Brooklyn called PAS, it evokes strange and frightening images, as scary as the names of the tracks; these 8 tracks aren’t for everyone, of course. The most bizarre song (and maybe one of the strongest here) refers to a constant disillusion with some surprise (in the most positive sense of the word). The different rhythms and audio frequencies used in this album manage to get the listener's attention. In this way, we can say that ‘Reconstruction’ is more accessible than we could've imagined. It would have been easy for PAS to produce an extreme and obscure album. Instead, they have the desire to communicate with us. From one track to another, abstract elements take over more concrete sounds, for instance, listen to the two tracks ‘Sound of Thought in Motion’ and ‘Here Ing Voices’. In my opinion, they are both excellent tracks, creating dark and psychedelic images.
Elusive sounds and noises (I think my dogs could hear them sometimes) make reference to the real world and to a ‘reconstruction’ of the 90’s electronic dance scene. I’m thinking about acts like Eat Static or Sabres of Paradise mixed with the evil of albums by Thrill Kill Kult and Sheep on Drugs. The artists we mentioned can even be references for this album.
Another good thing about this album is that each track is unique and personal. The eight tracks (yes, unfortunately, only 8) can then only be interpreted by PAS and the associated artist that contributed to the track. You have the choice between tracks you are going to listen in your bed staring at infinity and songs you are going to dance on. This mix between these two types of tracks is spontaneous and natural and couldn’t have been otherwise. It gives this album its interesting side. Refreshing and original, this project isn’t another of these pop albums in which the direction and the time are given or the reason why and how this project can be..."
French industrial music magazine, Obskure has written a review of 'Envisioning Abstraction: the Duality of FluiD' (ALRN008). Below is an excerpt from the review. The full review will be published in the Feburary 2011 issue.
"Right after a rough introduction, including feedbacks, cracklings and a powerful and rounded bass line, the FluiD’s expansionist world takes off. 'The Duality of FluiD' is presented first with a superb artwork that portrays the African continent repainted with the U.S. flag (the work is done by Trey Crim of Digitally Ruined Graphics).
The project started in Chicago (Christophe G. is originally from Los Angeles) and the industrial aspect of his music takes then a social meaning you can’t deny. The boundaries are pushed track after track to produce an intelligent and unclassifiable music. On one hand, you have a Trip-Hop coupled with the dirtiest Dub. Of course, some of you could think of Scorn ('The Absent Present'), but the guitars (always played in slow motion) provide a Rock/Heavy touch ('Froz n II'), downright Cold-Wave ('Parallel States') or Noise ('Iron Communique'), that will appeal to many listeners..."
"Sascha Müller aka Pharmacom start his career with djìng and producing in 1990. He was inspired by Projects like Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream and stuff like Sven Väth played in his dj sets. The musical style reaches from ambient chill out, house and techno music in his own special way. His way of producing is the use old analog equipment in the same way as the newest Software in digital producing. The greatest thing for him is to create new soundcollages and wicked samples for his tracks. As a Dj he played in several european locations and events like love parade and thunderdome. At the moment he is also playing as a vj and is involved in multimedia productions with some other global video and grafic artists."
Look for Sascha's upcoming 'Move My Body' EP on Alrealon Music (release date 12.13.10).

It has been a busy 2010 so far and it doesn't look it's showing any signs of slowing down. I've been working on a number of remixes and collaborations. There are still more to come, along with the release of my CD, 'Envisioning Abstraction: the Duality of FluiD'.
* Ghoul - 'Warm' and 'Down' (FluiD remixes) - Part of a remix swap with the Iowa based dubstep producer. Should be out by years end on Tundra Dubs.
* Black Saturn vs. subduxtion - 'Cosmic Karma' - Written in collaboration with Black Saturn. Two new tracks, 'Conquering Echo' and 'Dreamer'. To be released on Alrealon Music in June.
* Jason Covelli - 'I Am Evil' (FluiD remix) - I completed three remixes of Jason's spoken-word piece. All three remixes are forthcoming on Human.Burial.Tapes.CDs. The plan is to release a limited edition CD by late July.
* Actors&Actresses - 'Quiet' (FluiD remix) - I recently completed two remixes of the track 'Quiet'. One is a downtempo/trip-hop/glitch mix and the other is a drum and bass mix. The plan as I understnad it is for The Mylene Sheath to release a 12" vinyl of the best remixes and a digital version which will include all the remixes the band received.
* LaptopAcidXperience - 'cREEPYsHEEP' and 'Deep Water' (FluiD remixes) - Alrealon Music will be releasing a special version of the LAX single in Japan, which will include my two remixes. Release date is mid-September.
