Remixes and Collaborations

It has been a busy 2010 so far and it doesn't look it's showing any signs of slowing down. I've been working on a number of remixes and collaborations. There are still more to come, along with the release of my CD, 'Envisioning Abstraction: the Duality of FluiD'.

* Ghoul - 'Warm' and 'Down' (FluiD remixes) - Part of a remix swap with the Iowa based dubstep producer. Should be out by years end on Tundra Dubs.

* Black Saturn vs. subduxtion - 'Cosmic Karma' - Written in collaboration with Black Saturn. Two new tracks, 'Conquering Echo' and 'Dreamer'. To be released on Alrealon Music in June.

* Jason Covelli - 'I Am Evil' (FluiD remix) - I completed three remixes of Jason's spoken-word piece. All three remixes are forthcoming on Human.Burial.Tapes.CDs. The plan is to release a limited edition CD by late July.

* Actors&Actresses - 'Quiet' (FluiD remix) - I recently completed two remixes of the track 'Quiet'. One is a downtempo/trip-hop/glitch mix and the other is a drum and bass mix. The plan as I understnad it is for The Mylene Sheath to release a 12" vinyl of the best remixes and a digital version which will include all the remixes the band received.

* LaptopAcidXperience - 'cREEPYsHEEP' and 'Deep Water' (FluiD remixes) -  Alrealon Music will be releasing a special version of the LAX single in Japan,which will include my two remixes. Release date is mid-September.

In the works, production work with SDSA and  a collaboration with Aural Resuscitaion Unit

Alrealon Music presents: Tomorrow's Universe (ALRN016/ALRN-NS001).

We have now an official release date!

It will be out on Track It Down and Gogoyoko.com on the 21st of March 2010 and out everywhere else (itunes, audiojelly, amazon, etc) on the 5th of April 2010.

So what's the difference between ALRN016 and ALRN-NS001?

- ALRN016 is a "classic" retail version: it contains 15 tracks (including two remixes and The Subliminal Restless Syndrome: DJ Restless Alrealon Megamix) and it will be available at the Alrealon Store, Track It Down, itunes, etc in 320k mp3 and wav format.

- ALRN-NS001 is a free-to-download version of the compilation: It's a 12-track version which will be available at alrealon.co.uk only (192k mp3).

FluiD's New Year Business

I have a new EP nearly finished, due for release on Alrealon Music in and around March. It's entitled, 'Envisioning Abstraction: the Duality of FluiD' and contains 9 songs. This will be preceded by the release of a single entitled, 'Disrupting the Ghost',

I've also finished a remix of DJ Phys', 'Bury Mx Dxxp in Lovx'. The remix will appear on 'Alrealon Music presents: Tomorrow's Universe' (Alrealon Music). 'Tomorrow's Universe' is a compilation of new songs and remixes from Alrealon Music artists and associated artists. The remix will be part of the expanded version of  the compilation.

I've also been working with Black Saturn (Black Saturn vs. subduxtion) on some new tracks as well. We have a new EP finished, due for release on Alrealon Music in and around Feburary. It's entitled, 'Cosmic Karma' and contains 4 songs.

Other projects in the works include collaborations with spoken-word artist Jason Covelli, DJ/producer Ghoul and an experimental theatre piece with travis. More info on these very shortly.

Black Saturn vs subduxtion – Cosmic Sorcery EP

subduxtion writes futuristic electro / hip-hop and Black Saturn writes spacey meta-rap. They have worked together on other projects previously, including a full length album 'Ancient Kingdom' (Alrealon Music) and an EP on 'Future Noise' (BRAINSODOMY). This release is quite different in tone from the 'Future Noise' EP (which was darker and more sci-fi) having an almost pop feel with tinges of 8-bit lo-fi sensibility. It is also a concept EP, telling the story of “Metalman - the first afro-alchemist”, but don't hold your breath on that front though because I'm damned if I can discern any kind of story from whats going on. The beats are sparse but motive, giving plenty of room for the occasional synth stab and melodic flourish, but minimal seems to be the order of the day. This, in combination with the slightly retro feel of the production, has given the music a very original but slightly odd feel which is enhanced by restrained approach to vocals taken by Black Saturn, a talented rapper who is obviously influenced by the likes of Beans, Kool Keith et al. He has a nasal, high pitched delivery which is distinctive and unexpectedly appealing and also has a fondness for polysyllabic vocabulary which is frowned on in conventional rap but is one of the best features of so called “genius rap”. However, it feels like his vocals have taken second place to the music for this EP, and in my opinion there is almost too little going on at times.I enjoyed this EP but it seems to lack a little weight in some way. I really like “Metalman Speaks” and “Recluse” but the other tracks didn't leave too much of an impression . There is nothing I can point to specifically but the tracks fail to impress themselves on me as immediately as, say, tracks like 'My New Spacesuit' on the 'Future Noise' EP.

On the positive side, this duo are creating a strong and unique identity for themselves with neither artist resorting to tried and tested cliché. This kind of experimentation will give rise to unpredictable results, but it will also be a lot more likely to get them noticed in the morass of music on the internet.

Finally, I am happy to report that 'Metalman Speaks' will be played on BBC Radio 6 in the near future so it looks like they might already have won the first battle, if not the war.
